A commitment to excellence in managing construction projects

The four-year mechanical engineering programme focuses on designing, analysing, and manufacturing mechanical systems, emphasising energy, machines, thermodynamics, and sustainable technologies.

Programme offers flexible exit points with a Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) and Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) awarded after the first and second semesters, respectively.

Construction project management

The complexities of present day construction projects demands sound management to deliver the scope, time, cost and quality expectation of clients.This module introduces the students to the fundamental principles of construction project management. It aims to furnish them with the skills and knowledge necessary for successful management of construction projects by presenting the principles and techniques for planning and controlling project activities and efficient and effective use of resources. The module will also help student gain the skills to motivate and lead team members.

Construction contract management

This module aims to impart the knowledge and skills needed for managing project contracts. By examining the principles and practices for effective contract management from both the clients’ and contractors’ perspectives, it will help the students gain the knowledge base for successful fulfilment of the contractual provisions of the project. National as well International regulations governing construction contracts are also presented to provide a holistic perspective on contract management practices and trends.

Invest analysis for infrastructure project

Sound financial planning and management is an important prerequisite for the success of construction projects. The module is designed to provide the students with the fundamental knowledge and practical techniques for planning and management of the financial aspects of construction projects. Building up on the basic principles of economics, students will gain the techniques for estimating, analyzing and controlling cost, viability assessment of projects for making investment decision and managing finances in ongoing projects.

Project planning, scheduling and controlling

This module will provide students with an understanding of project management principles and techniques in planning, scheduling, cost and quality control of projects considering underlying constraints in a contemporary project environment. Through a varieties of presentation methods and learning strategies together with the use of project management software tools, student will be able to define project scope, prepare schedule, and define appropriate communication process to monitoring and control measures to ensure project success. The module will also allow students to explore emerging management practices and technologies in construction industry.

Dessertation

The module will provide students the opportunity to apply relevant scientific and analytical methods and practical skills to the explore the chosen topic; as well as develop research skills acquired through the study of modules on research that form part of the programme. This module is intended to bring overall enhancement in the students’ ability to be critical, independent and reflective.
